In a story on liquidity questions at bond funds after investor lock-up at
Third Avenue:

“The question is whether funds like this are as liquid as investors had
thought,” said Erik Gordon, a University of Michigan law professor. “The
reality is even big, sophisticated investors underestimate the risk of
uncommon events, even though liquidity has been a problem in front of their
eyes all along.”

On the assignment of the US class actions against VW to federal district court judge Charles Breyer, in Sam Fransisco, instead of Detroit, New York or Delaware.

“Only a group that wants to dominate the world would pay so much for such a
weak player,” Erik Gordon, a professor at the University of Michigan, said
of the offer for Keurig.

(I might have gotten a little dramatic there.)

On the possibility of a proxy battle initiated by Starboard Value, the fund
that successfully ousted the entire board of Darden Restaurants

“The board is going to end up having to negotiate something with Jeff one
way or the other,” said Erik Gordon, a professor at the University of
Michigan’s Ross School of Business, referring to Starboard’s CEO. “They can
do it behind closed doors or they can do it after he prevails in a proxy
fight.”

“The mismanagement of the crisis will be a classic case study in business
schools around the world,” says Professor Erik Gordon of the Ross School of
Business at the University of Michigan.

He adds: “VW is taking every opportunity to compound its troubles with US
regulators and the damage to its image with US consumers.”
